Introducing Associate Editors

PhilWelcome all classic Volvo fans, as always. During the two-month time that this issue will be on line, we'll be phasing in a very significant change -- for the better, I think you'll find.

I have asked several certified Volvo "nuts" to become "Associate Editors." They are (alphabetically): David A. Hueppchen, Cameron Lovre and Jim McDonald. Thanks, guys! Applause...

Beginning a few weeks into this issue, you'll notice a change in how the "Ask the Experts" section works. When you send in a problem of general interest, we'll open an E-mail dialog with you and try to work through to a solution. The results will then appear in the column for comment and further elaboration by readers. The column will then be about real solutions that worked, not just speculation, and we'll archive the results for future reference. This should be a big improvement over our current "sort of of like a bulletin board, only slower" format. Not only that, but you'll have to stump four of us before that "no clue" marker goes up, not just one.

This is a very loose, voluntary, collaboration, but I also hope to get some articles from these gentlemen on a semi-regular basis -- for instance, in this issue, Cameron takes on the question about which shocks to use on lowered cars. This should give me a bit more time to play with our own cars and do other Volvo-related things (thereby having something new to write about), as well as improving the design and interactivity of the magazine (which has stayed pretty static so far -- a lot more could be done).

Naturally, we still very much want contributions from our readers. We have an interesting assortment of those in this issue: Mark Hershoren sent in a story about -- uh, well -- whatever it's about, it's mostly not about an engine swap, Evan Reisner provided an editorial about a great reason to buy Volvos (they're cheap!), and Mike Denman tells us a dark tale about modifications run amok (our first noir piece...).
