We attempt to respond to every E-mail we receive. If you do not get results within five days or so, send your message again -- something went astray!Rave reviewHi Phil,I just bought a new computer the other day and got hooked into the net the night before last. One reason for doing this was so that I could locate Volvo sites in order to find parts sources and technical support for my restoration project. I own an '88 Bertone V-6 and a '67 1800S. I guess that qualifies me as a Volvo freak (I prefer buff). I'm a high school teacher whose students always used to rag me about the "boxy" Volvos I've driven down through the years. When I told them that the "S" was a Volvo, they shut up. They think that it's pretty sexy. Anyway, while surfing Volvo sites, I ran across your interactive magazine. What a treasure! I know that it's going to be invaluable to me when I can start restoring the 1800 after I retire next summer. I just finished printing out the piece on B18 & B20 rebuilds.
Keep up the fine work. I'm already a loyal reader! Jerry, thanks for the nice words. We're also looking forward to restoring our 1800S (demands of the magazine permitting) and hope we can both share our mutual experiences with our readers. PS: Don't overlook the "Archive" section! Volvo PV registerThe homepage for the VOLVO PV Register is finally up and running at:
At this point it is only one page, but as the database grows, we hope to expand to a Picture Gallery and Submit-able Form capability.
Thank You, Volvo V44 ClubHello Phil,Greetings from Volvo V44 Vereniging, Holland. Volvo V44 is an active club with about 4000 owners of PV, Amazon, P1800 or older models. Besides many interesting activities, the Volvo V44 club has its own spare parts supply called V.O.D. (Volvo V44 Onderdelen Depot) with more than 8000 different new spares in stock (sales only to members for their registered cars). For more information, look at our homepage: http://home.pi.net/~volvov44. Welcome to the Dutch world of the PV, Amazon and P1800.
Best regards, Bertone production numbersCan you please help me obtain production (U.S.) numbers for 1978 - 1980 Bertone models?
Thank you very much in advance for your help. I also own a 1970 1800E and I think this web site is going to be a great resource to me. Keep up the great work. We couldn't come up with the US production numbers, but Dan Johnston of Volvo Cars of North America was kind enough to give us these numbers for world production:
More from the NetherlandsHello,Hereby we submit our beautiful '68 black Volvo Amazon. We hope you create a nice spot for it on your interactive magazine which we enjoy very much.
With best regards, Thank you very much! Your photo has been added to our collection. We seem to get more mail from the Netherlands than any other European country -- are there laws there that encourage people to own older Volvos, or are the Dutch just smarter than everyone else? '70 1800E help neededLooking for an engine and a variety of parts for a 1970 P1800 restoration project. I'm in Baltimore (Love dem Orioles) and need all the help I can get.Ron Andrews rwa@qis.net Biased car magazinesMy name is Rob Purifoy, I am a realtor in the Dallas area. I guess this comes with the territory of owning a Volvo, but is seems that most car magazines don't give Volvos any credit. When a car magazine (I won't, Car and Driver, mention any names here) reviews a Volvo it's always the wagon, and they always seem to be much slower than I know they really are. Even when they tested the 850 sedan they clocked a 0-60 run in 7.0 seconds. Now when they test cars such as the Mustang GT, the older Toyota MR2 turbo and the like, they clocked the same run in 6.1 or so seconds. Keep following me here -- I then drag race the aforementioned "sports cars" and smoke the heck out of them. Now could I have purchased the souped up special 850? I think not. I think something is amiss; you do the math.As long as the sheer speed of these Volvos is kept on the down low, I guess the price will be too. So maybe it's not all that bad -- besides, if everyone knew how great these cars are we would have as many on the road as there are Z-28's, yuck.
Thought I would also send a pic, your magazine is great, I'm a first time reader. I've seen quite a range of figures for the 850's performance myself, and don't know why that is. Actually, I think the wagon is just about as fast as the sedan, and I question your appraisal of the price being "low." Thanks a lot for the pic -- it's in the Photo Gallery. 960 arc-lamps...A quick hint for 960 owners that haven't figured this out. I like all the lights possible on a car, so I don't understand why Volvo put only one rear-facing fog lamp on the rear. My 740 has two. Fortunately the socket and wiring are there -- it's just a matter of opening up a plastic shield in front of the socket and popping in another bulb. After the warranty is up.
For light freaks there are aftermarket halogen bulbs to replace the wimpy back-up lamps. Now if I could just figure out how to power an arc-lamp without changing alternators... Greetings from downunderYou have created a great site -- I discovered it at about issue number three and look forward to each new issue hitting the net. I am a member of the Volvo 1800/120 Club here in Australia and have provided your site address to our members via our last national mag -- hopefully you will be getting drops in from downunder and hopefully contributions as well.
We are lucky here that we have a high survival rate for our cars as there is little snow in this country. It is my understanding that we have one of the highest Jensen 1800 populations in the world -- certainly on a per capita basis. We, like most classic Volvo owners, love our cars and get together nationally as well as through our state chapters to discuss ways to preserve our marque. Keep up the great work and hopefully we will be able to provide some valuable feedback based upon our experiences that will find interest with your other readers. Thanks, Richard. We look forward to hearing from all of you down there. Our best regards to all! More pics from Poland[More] pics of my Volvo.
ad.1 Volvo & my daughter After reading Volvo Interactive Magazin I'm fatally ill on Volvo.
Kind regards, Wojtek, that may be the nicest compliment we've received yet. We've added pics 3 and 4 to our gallery. Thanks a lot, and keep in touch! European rally and moreHello Phil,About two months ago I talked to someone who was going to drive the old-timer rally Luik-Sophia-Luik (about 4000 miles) in his 122S. The car looked fine and technically it was excellent. It had Webers, Bilsteins, a really BIG Remus muffler, a big gastank, Recaro seats, ... The engine had a 320 degrees 13mm lift cam and 180+ hp. Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago I was told that he had an accident in Croatia, the car went off the road and 100m below it came to a standstill crashing into a tree. The driver didn't wear his seat belts and he had a severe skull injury. The co-pilot didn't have a scratch. The driver was brought to hospital and is doing well now (he has already bought another 122S body). Bringing the car back home was a problem, when transported on the truck they would have to pay import taxes at about every border. So they put the car between a tree and the truck and pulled it back into normal shape. This way the poor car could be driven back home. I've seen the car at the garage and it doesn't look too bad considering the crash it had. By the way, it was a British PV544 that won the rally. Almost 50 percent of the cars were badly damaged due to the bad roads and couldn't make it to the finish. It's a pity to destroy those nice old-timers in such a cruel and badly organized rally. Last weekend I did some racing with my red '67 122S on the race track of Zolder in Belgium. It was a great experience! I liked it so much that the blue 121 I am rebuilding now (the one on the pictures I sent you) will be used in future for this race. I need to install a safety cage and the engine could use a little beefing up too. It already has an S-cam and a D-jetronic, but I am planning to install a turbo on the B20. A sports suspension would be very useful too.
Regards. Always nice to hear from you, Remi! I look forward to hearing more about your 121 racecar -- keep sending those photos and we'll make a great article out of it. Fighter pilot articleAmen brother, it's nice to know that there are SOME thinking people out there still, though you couldn't tell from the way most drive out in my neck of the woods. Let's face it, fast isn't necessarily unsafe, and 55 mph in the fast lane is just as bad as the idiot swerving in and out of crowded rush hour traffic without a thought of "What If..."
Situational Awareness.... It's a Good Thing. I have recently discovered that it applies in legal circles as well... Rebuilding B18Your Web page is outstanding!I really appreciate your info on rebuilding a B18 ... I'm planning a rebuild of my '67 122S this coming spring, I'm sure I will rely heavily on your well thought out steps. I did a 122 rebuild about 15 years ago when I was young and foolish ... the thing ran, but I admit I took some shortcuts I shouldn't have ... this time I'll do it right!
I'm looking forward to your next issue .. thanks again! You're very welcome, Ray. I hope the series will be of help to anyone contemplating such a rebuild -- good luck! Nice Amazon Please find attached a "nice" Amazon. I know you prefer colored ones, but aren't the best horror stories in B&W also????Hans Blonk The Netherlands Ouch, Hans! Looks like it could be fixed, though... Happy customerAnother outstanding issue!!!! I really enjoyed the article by John Erickson. GREAT JOB!!Ed Santana esantana@ici.net That's what we like to hear, Ed. Thanks a lot! Aftermarket 200, 700 & 900 partsI wonder if you guys can help me. I'm looking for aftermarket Volvo parts and improvements items for 200, 700 and 900 series Volvos. I'm aware of IPD and Group Six in the U.S. In Sweden, the 4 cylinder cars are a lot more in use than here in North America. I was informed once by a friend in Sweden that I can get quite a lot of aftermarket parts and enhancement kits for these Volvos, but I've lost contact with him.
[In the US,] there are very few distributors for aftermaket improvement parts for older Volvos. I was wondering if you can help me locate one in Sweden. For a start, I'll publish your letter. Any help, out there? 1800S projectI recently bought a 1968 P1800 that has a near perfect body, but is completly disassembled and missing a few parts. I am in need of a complete parts car that will also serve as a guide for me during the assembly of the one I have. I am doing this project with my twin 15 year old sons in an attempt to educate them (and me!) as to how these autos are put together.Tom Doran tdoran@northnet.org or jdoran@oswego.org Tom, that's probably a tall order, but I wish you luck. You can look at '64 through '69 models as being quite similar to your car. Please write again about any specifics we might be able to help with (our '67 is almost together). Volvos in IsraelHello,My name is Aviv Peres and I'm from the city of Tel-Aviv, Israel. I'm a film director, especially documentaries. I've recently completed a 20-minute film called Volvo Forever. It is about old Volvo owners in Israel, and their cars. I would like to know if you're interesting in that kind of film. It has now been translated into English.
Meanwhile, you can check out MY Volvo, parking on one of Tel-Aviv's sidewalks. Aviv, your film sounds very interesting, but I don't know how I'd put it on the web. If you'd like to write an article about it and send some more photos, I'd be delighted. Your photo has been added to "Photo Gallery." Thanks! Swedish SpeedHow's it going, nice web site, it seems a person can never have enough contacts these days. I had a customer turn me on to your site. I would like to offer my web site to your links. We are a Volvo service, repair, and restoration shop. It doesn't matter if its a 4 cyl or a V-6, even a turbo diesel, if it says Volvo we work on it.
Let me know if we may be added. We were happy to add http://www.swedishspeed.com to the new "Service" category on our links page. Back to the Top |
