'Tis the Season...
Each issue takes on a character of its own regardless of my efforts to strike a balance between entertainment and information. This issue runs to the information end of the spectrum, thanks to our contributors. In our new News column, ipd's Scott Hart clarifies how parts for older Volvo models will be distributed now that Volvo is divesting itself of its PV, Amazon and 1800 inventory, and tells of ipd's plans to reissue many of its classic Volvo parts as well. Paul Seminara wrestles with rust on his 262C (the "Blue Blennie") and gives us all an education in My Summer With POR-15. In our last issue, we began our series on Rebuilding Your B18/B20, and we conclude it here -- we couldn't just leave you with your engine scattered around the garage, now could we? Thanks to Jerry Sira for the photos and for answering the questions that make up this issue's Star Cars -- Jerry's 122S placed first in the modified class at last fall's tri-club meet at Lake Placid. Documentary filmmaker Aviv Peres gives us a tour of Israel and of his very entertaining new movie in The Making of "Volvo Forever", and, of course, new pics keep trickling into the Photo Gallery, so there is some stuff for you less technically inclined types as well. Just to keep this all from being too much fun, this issue's Soapbox is about our trademark disagreement with Volvo -- many of you are probably about as tired of the subject as I am, but we got more mail on that particular subject than on any other thing that's been in the magazine to date, so it may still be of interest to some. Certainly, it's an important subject to anyone operating or designing websites about Volvos. A final comment about the magazine: please don't overlook the Archive section. Technical articles from past issues are available there in an easy-to-print format. I'm always happy to try to answer technical questions, but many times my best answer is "Click over to the Archive section, and read the piece about..." Marsha and I both want to wish everyone a terrific time for the holidays, and peace and prosperity in the new year. Enjoy the magazine, and be safe out there! Phil Singher, Editor |
