Destruction of Volvo Military Vehicles
Dear Mister Singher,
I got information from friends in Sweden about the Swedish Government decision do demolish older military vehicles. The situation is described (also in English) at the URL address:
http://www.utskrotningen.com
I think that it would really a pity to destroy vehicles like, e.g., Valpen 903 and 9033. It would possibly be better to try to make some sort of auction (also of spare parts?). I also think that, besides people interested in veteran military vehicles, also the enthusiasts of classic cars in general could say their opinion, therefore I am addressing you this message, in case you were not yet informed of the question.
With best regards,
Achille De Battisti

B30 in a 122?
Has anyone had first hand experience stuffing a B30 in an Amazon or P1800? It must have been done. I see a number of issues including:
- Size issues: extra length will force radiator forward? ( most certainly)
- Weight issues: how many extra pounds are we dealing with? Stiffer springs? Handling degradation?
- Motor mounts: can one use the existing B18/B20 points without any changes?
- Transmission: can one use standard M4x setup? (I believe so)
- Heat issues: I will use the 164 specs as a reference point.
I am hoping to fit my Amazon with a B30 and thereby break well into the 200+ HP range without a blower or turbo. I am interested in anyone with first hand experience. All second hand, or no hands comments / suggestions are welcome.

Santa Fe Volvo Dealership
Since so many Volvo dealer service departments are a travesty, when we run into a good one, it seems appropriate to praise 'em.
Several moons ago, in my VClassics tale of my trek of 9,000 miles through the West in seven weeks, I mentioned a most cooperative dealership in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I couldn't recall its name when writing the article. In a recent swamp-out-the-office binge, Manny Altamirano's card turned up. He's the "Service Advisor" at Santa Fe Volvo, the guy who welcomed this travelin' man and his '72 1800ES into his service bay and gave me 20 minutes free time on his lift -- under the close supervision of several curious, friendly mechanics who were quick to offer use of their tools, should I have needed any.
All I had to do was tighten the exhaust hanger U-bolt by the transmission mount and do a general check around under there. None of several local gas stations nor independent garages had time for me, even though I offered to pay, but the guys at Santa Fe Volvo welcomed me and wouldn't take a dime -- a rarity in this age of greed!

Artwork Kudos
You have outdone yourself once again. The new Dec-Jan cover page is too creative. I just want you to know how much I enjoy all that you do.
Kudos to you,

As always I love your artwork! Do you ever sell your pictures? Hopefully you do. Keep up the good work.

Marsha and I thank you sincerely. We've been intending to sell prints of web covers and other VClassics artwork for a long time, but still haven't gotten organized about it. A calendar, perhaps? Please let us know specifically what you folks would like to see.

Chilean Volvo Club
The good new is that the first Vintage Volvo Club of Chile has been founded. Founder's name is Alberto Averill (Aaverillcl@hotmail.com), a local Volvo enthusiast. I'm a board member of the club. We have done several activities, like meetings and a couple of "brainstorming sessions" to put this idea on wheels.
I'll send you an scanned photo of one of the club's trips, and all the Chilean Volvo enthusiasts will appreciate if you publish it in further editions of your magazine.
Thanks a lot.
